Nollywood: Netflix Unveils Titles Premiering On Streaming Platform

Nollywood fans have a lot to be excited about as streaming giant Netflix has released upcoming titles that will premiere on the platform.

With many still gushing about the recently released epic Jagun Jagun, it is expected that the movies coming next will further satiate the appetites of fans.

The projects coming to Netflix encompass different genres and star some of the biggest names in the movie industry. 

Behind some of them are notable names like Editi Effiong, Mo Abudu, Charles Okpaleke, Kunle Afolayan and Kemi Adetiba. 

It is important to note that the forthcoming titles are currently in various stages of production and when that has been completed, they will be available to more than 238 million members around the world in over 190 countries.

Speaking on the films, Netflix's Vice President of Content in the Middle East and Africa, Ben Amadasun shared: “We are fortunate to bring incredible projects from some of Nigeria’s most prolific creators.

“Collaborating with them has enabled us to showcase Nigeria’s immense storytelling talent and creativity and make Netflix the home of the best Nigerian stories for our audience in Nigeria and around the world.”

Below are the titles:

The Black Book

Starring Richard Mofe-Damijo and Ade Laoye as the leads, this crime thriller is directed by Editi Effiong and produced by Anakle Films.

The plot centres on a father out to get revenge against the corrupt policemen who killed his only son. 

Other cast members are Sam Dede, Alex Usifo Omiagbo; Olumide Oworu, Shaffy Bello, Ireti Doyle, Taiwo Ajayi Lycett, Ikechukwu Onunaku, Patric Doyle, Bimbo Manuel Femi Branch, Denola Grey, Kelechi Udegbe and Nobert Young.

Blood Vessel

This mystery from Charles Okpaleke and Play Network Studios sees a group of six friends caught in a crossfire and try to flee to South Africa as stowaways on a ship amid the unrest that follows a coup in their hometown in the Niger Delta.

Helmed by Moses Inwang, the film has a star cast that includes David Ezekiel, Adaobi Dibor and Jide Kene Achufusi.

Ijogbon

This is a coming-of-age film about four teenagers in southwest Nigeria who discover a pouch of diamonds. They decide to hide it and with that choice comes dire consequences.

Kunle Afolayan has the director's chair in this one, with stars like Ruby Akubueze, Kayode Ojuolape, Oluwaseyi Ebiesuwa; Fawaz Aina of Ikorodu Boiz; Yemi Solade; Gabriel Afolayan and Bimbo Manuel.

Anikulapo: Rise of the Spectre

The much-anticipated spin-off to the hit 2022 film comes in the form of a four-part series still directed by Afolayan, with some of the original cast members returning.

Sola Sowobale, Kunle Remi and Bimbo Ademoye alongside Owobo Ogunde, Gabriel Afolayan, Lateef Adedimeji, Eyiyemi Afolayan, Uzee Usman, Oyinda Sanni and Taiwo Hassan are involved.

War

Mo Abudu's EbonyLife Studios produces this drama series with themes of wrath and revenge. Reportedly a spin-off of Sons of the Caliphate, it follows Nuhu Bula’s rise to the governorship of Kowa, treacherously orchestrated by his wife Binta, who would stop at nothing to see her husband succeed.

War stars Mofe Duncan, Rahama Sadau, Yakubu Mohammed, Patrick Doyle, Ayoola Ayolola, Ifeanyi Kalu, Theresa Edem,  Bikiya Graham Douglas, Daniel Okosun, Maikudi “Cashman”, Mickey Odeh,  Sophia Muhammed, Uzee Usman, Padita Agu and  Ahide Adum. Dimbo Atiya directs.

Oloture: The Series

A continuation of the events of the film where the titular character continues her undercover work as a journalist crossing the Benin border. 

Her perilous journey will take her through the hostile lands of Niger and Libya to the Mediterranean as she desperately tries to find a way out.

Kenneth Gyang returns to direct a cast that features Sharon Ooja, Omoni Oboli, Beverley Osu, Ikechukwu Onunaku, Stan Nze, Amarachukwu Ono, Bukola Oladipupo, Daniel Etim Effiong and Patrick Doyle.
