Notorious toy gun robbery suspect apprehended in Enugu

The Enugu State Police Command nabbed a criminal known for robbing residents with a toy gun.

DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the command's spokesman, stated on Saturday in Enugu that the suspect was detained on Wednesday and arraigned on Friday.

According to him, police officers apprehended the 28-year-old suspect in coordination with a Neighbourhood Watch Group and seized the toy weapon from him.

“Investigations reveal that the suspect and his accomplices, still at large, have been on the watch list of the police for their involvement in several cases of armed robbery, burglary, and stealing,’’ he added.

According to the police spokesman, the suspect has been held at the Enugu Correctional Custodial Centre until the hearing of the accusations against him.

In a related report, the So-Safe Corps apprehended a man terrorising the Ala Community in Odogbolu Local Government Area with a fake pistol. 

The security outfit made this known in a press statement issued from the Office of the State Commander of the Corps, Commander (Dr) Soji Ganzallo through the Office of the Director of Information and Public Relations of the Corps, Assistant Commander Moruf Yusuf said that on January 21, 2024.

The suspect, identified as Daniel Iwalokun, a native of Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State was apprehended by the Ijebu Zonal Operation team of the Corps. 

"The suspect has been instilling fear and causing unrest in Ala communities with his criminal activities using the fake pistol to achieve his criminal aims. 

"Following the suspect's arrest, preliminary investigations established that he has been operating alone."

Ganzallo further revealed that the suspect and the recovered fake pistol have been transferred to the Nigeria Police Force, Obalende Divisional Police Headquarters for further investigation and likely prosecution. 

Meanwhile, the Enugu State Police Command has announced that its officers have freed Ituku Ozalla, a security guard at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH), who was purportedly kidnapped together with a nurse on Tuesday.

According to accounts, unidentified gunmen thought to be kidnappers raided the hospital on Tuesday and allegedly grabbed a female employee and a security guard.

Allnews.ng discovered an online viral video of an SUV apparently belonging to the abducted woman, which was riddled with gunfire.

Although the hospital remained silent about the occurrence, certain staff members who spoke on the condition of anonymity verified it.

“This is so sad; we are not safe at all in this hospital; everywhere is porous," bemoaned one of the staff.

DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the State Police Public Relations Officer, stated on Wednesday that police operatives had recovered the security personnel.
