The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said that it is fully ready and committed to conducting a free, fair, credible, and hitch-free governorship election in Ondo State come October 10, 2020.

Saying this on Wednesday while speaking with newsmen at Akure, the Ondo Sate capital, the commission's chairman Mahmood Yakubu revealed that the card readers that were destroyed at the commission's headquarters in the state had been replaced.

Yakubu further revealed that his visit was to conduct an on-the-spot assesment of the preparedness level of the commission ahead of the governorship election in the state.

Assuring residents of the state that the election is going to be hitch-free just like that of Edo State, Yakubu revealed that that the commission had made provisions for the card readers from other Ssates which have been configured ahead of the polls.

“We have already recovered some smart card readers. We unfortunately lost over 5000 smart card readers to the fire incident.

“We have, however, recovered by getting requisite a number of smart card readers from neighbouring Oyo State,” he said.

Yakubu further made known his intentions to interact with all the stakeholders in the election, including traditional rulers in the state to ensure the success of the election.

It will be recalled that over 5,000 smart card readers meant for the conduct of the state's governorship election got burnt in an inferno on the 10th of September.
