Kaluuya won the award for Best Actor in a Supporting role for his portrayal of Fred Hampton in Judas and the Black Messiah. While accepting the honour, he expressed his thanks to God and those he worked with in the film.
Things took an unexpected turn when he talked about his parents having sex, calling it amazing, bringing a look of confusion to his mother's face and his sister hiding hers in her hands.

His words, "We've got to celebrate life, man. We're breathing, we're walking. It's incredible. It's incredible! Like, it's incredible! My mom met my dad, and they had sex. It's amazing! Do you know what I'm saying? I'm here!"
After his win at the event, the actor was asked if he had spoken to his mother about the words he said and he responded: "Yeah, no. No, I'm gonna avoid my phone for a bit, man.
