The Asian countries of Iran and Pakistan have formed a joint task force to cooperate on border security.

The Middle East Monitor, disclosed this on Wednesday, following a meeting in Islamabad, Pakistan between Iranian Interior Minister, Ahmad Vahidi and his Pakistani counterpart Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad.

Vahidi had told Iran's IRNA that both countries were seeking to strengthen economic relations.

He said in a statement that; "Iran-Pakistan relations, especially in the economic field, should be stronger and broader."

"The joint working group aims to improve border security in addition to addressing trade and travel issues and the exchange of prisoners."

This development comes at a time when border patrols from both countries have been under attack from terrorists including Al-Qaeda affiliates, Jeish Al-Adl and drug smugglers.

This month, the militant group, Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), was reported to have attacked two security posts belonging to Pakistan's Paramilitary Frontier Corps, killing at least 12 soldiers.
