Pakistanis Await Court's Verdict On Ex-PM Imran Khan's Arrest

Fans of Imran Khan mounted his residence on Friday as the ex-Pakistani Prime Minister waits to receive a verdict on whether security forces could tear down an offensive to arrest him for his failure to appear in court.

Battles had ensued between hundreds of supporters and security forces that had tried to force the former PM to attend a hearing in a case in which he is accused of selling state gifts.

The violence which occurred on Tuesday and Wednesday saw security forces use tear gas and water cannons.

Khan's aide Fawad Chaudhury said his party, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, had filed another plea on Friday at the Islamabad High Court to suspend the arrest warrant.

He said; "Our supporters are outside Imran Khan's house but I don't think matters will become extreme."

Police are waiting for the court ruling on the warrant before taking any action.

A court in Islamabad issued the arrest warrant when Khan, failed to appear over charges that he unlawfully sold state gifts given to him by foreign dignitaries when he was prime minister from 2018 to 2022.
