The opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP,  has urged the Economics and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to probe former Edo State Governor, Senator Adams Oshiomohle for alleged vote buying.

Following Oshiomhole's statement on the happenings of the 2019 general elections, the Kwara State branch of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) made the call.

During the book launch of the party's former national vice chairman, Salihu Lukman, from the North West region, Oshiomohle, a former national chairman of the APC, stated that the APC spent a total of N2.4 billion to achieve victory in the 2019 governorship elections in various states.

He specifically stated that N800 million was granted to Imo, Ogun, Kwara, and Taraba as a result of strong opposition leaders in those states.

While serving as the APC's national chairman, Oshiomohle was embroiled in a fierce feud with former Nigerian Senate President Bukola Saraki, who defected to the PDP.

The party's state candidates forced him to clash with former Ogun State governor Ibikunle Amosun and former Imo State governor Rochas Okorocha.

The Kwara PDP, on the other hand, issued a statement on Thursday through its state publicity secretary, Olusegun Olusola Adewara, encouraging the EFCC to launch an investigation against Senator Oshiomhole as soon as possible.

"We are vindicated by Oshiomhole’s public admittance that the 2019 elections in Kwara were rigged to dislodge Saraki.

“However, we want to assert that Oshiomhole’s public confession of indulging in vote-buying politics constitutes a serious breach of Nigerian law,” the opposition party statement partly read.
