The Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Tuesday, convicted three internet fraudsters identified as Elegushi Mumuni Abiodun, Abdullahi Umar Faruq and Abiola Gabriel Oladimeji.

Justice Agomoh, who ruled on the case instituted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), said the suit bordering on impersonation is contrary to Section 22 (2) (b) (i) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention etc.) Act 2015 and punishable under the same section.

The defendants pleaded guilty to the charges preferred against them by the EFCC and the prosecution counsel urged the court to convict them as charged.

Justice Agomoh, therefore, sentenced Abiodun to seven months imprisonment; Faruq to 18 months and Oladimeji to nine months imprisonment.

The court ordered that Elegushi pays the sum of $550 (Five Hundred and Fifty United States Dollars), and forfeit one iPhone X mobile phone to the Federal Government of Nigeria.
