A human rights group identified as the “Take It Back Movement” on Monday hit the streets of Lagos State to protest against the soaring price of food and the high cost of living in the country.
The protesters persisted after the warning issued by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Adegoke Fayoade, on Sunday.
The protesters were seen carrying placards of various inscriptions at Ojuelegba under bridge area of the state to make their grievances known on the current economic hardship across the country.
Due to the economic hardship, some states have earlier taken to the street to protest in their numbers.
In Niger, women and youth took to the street and blocked the Kpagungu axis of Minna-Bida Road in the Niger State capital city, protesting against hunger and the high cost of living.
The women, carrying a placard with the inscription “No food, we are dying of hunger”, demanded a better condition of living and a reduction in the cost of living for the citizenry.
Responding, Niger State Police Command clamped down on 25 protesters.
