A Magistrate Court, sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State has convicted and sentenced Anayor Ugo, a man in his fifties, to seven years in jail without fine for defiling and impregnating a 12-year-old girl.
Ugo, a generator repairer, was claimed to have visited the juvenile girl's house in Oyigbo sometime in 2021 to repair their generator set at the victim's father's request but defiled her in the process.
Despite admitting intimate knowledge of the girl throughout the trial, he denied getting her pregnant, saying he was seduced.
In her judgement, Chief Magistrate Rita Oguguo stated that the prosecution was able to show their case that the girl was defiled by evidence and the accused's admission.
Following his post-conviction petition for compassion, she sentenced him to seven years in jail without the possibility of a fine.
