Belarus may join the Ukrainian war if Ukraine decides to “invade” either Belarus or Russia.
On Friday, Aleksey Polishchuk, a Russian aide said that looming Russian military drills with Belarus were designed to prevent escalation.
He also warned that there was potential for Belarus to join the war effort.
Polishchuk added; “From a legal point of view, the use of military force by the Ukrainian regime or the invasion of the territory of Belarus or Russia by the armed forces of Ukraine are sufficient grounds for a collective response."
When Russia invaded Ukraine last February, Russia deployed thousands of forces to Belarus under the pretext of military drills before launching its offensive.
The two countries have since agreed on military cooperation and plan to hold joint aviation exercises in Belarus next week.
