World number four Elena Rybakina is through to the second round of this year's French Open after shaking off a sluggish start in her opening match on Tuesday.
The Wimbledon champion won 6-4 6-2 against Czech qualifier Brenda Fruhvirtova to continue her impressive run on clay.
But the match wasn't all that easy for Rybakina as she had to battle back from a break down in both sets against Fruhvirtova who was seeking her first tour-level win in the sixth tour-level main draw of her career.
“She [ Fruhvirtova] played really well. Especially for her age," she said.
"I don’t even remember what I was doing at her age. I think I was in juniors. It’s amazing.
"If she keeps going like this, she’ll be very good, very fast.”
The Moscow born-Kazakh hit nine aces en route to her 29th match-win of the season, second only to Aryna Sabalenka's 30 match-wins in 2023.
She will take on another Czech in Linda Noskova in the next round as she continues her quest for a second Grand Slam title.
