Students in schools across Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, turned out in large numbers as the 2nd term of the 2022/2023 academic session commenced on Monday.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that students in both public and private schools in the Ibadan metropolis were seen in their various schools very early in the morning.

Nike Mabinuori, the School Administrator, Rhema Chapel International College, thanked God for the previous year and the commencement of a new year.

She noted that schools are committed to teaching their students to remain on the right track.

She encouraged parents to play their part in assisting the school by training their wards for a bright future.

“We want to guard against moral decadence which is all over now. Every school has its own share of it and we are going to teach and counsel our students to be on the right track,” Mabinuori said.

The Chairman of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), Oyo State branch, Dr Mary Odedare, also expressed her members' readiness to do their job.

“We know that economically, it is not easy but we pray to God that things will be easier for various families this year,” he said.

Odedare also noted that the association has no say in the alleged attempts by some private schools in the State to increase their school fees.

“Determining whether school fees should be increased or not by our members is not within the purview of this association.

“However, looking critically at the whole situation, I’m of the opinion that if anything is going to be increased, it should not be now,” she noted.
