Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) goalkeeper Sergio Rico is in intensive care following a head injury sustained after a horse riding accident.

A PSG spokesperson said on Sunday that the Spanish goalkeeper is in a "serious condition" and is set to undergo medical exams at the Virgen del Rocio hospital in Seville.

The incident occurred in his native Spain after the club gave their players permission to travel wherever they wished following PSG's league triumph on Saturday evening.

It is believed Rico was hit in the neck by a runaway horse and fell while riding in the El Rocio region of Huelva in Spain.

Sevilla, the former club of the  29-year-old, confirmed the news and wished him a speedy recovery in a Twitter message on Sunday.

"Lots of strength and speedy recovery," the Europa League finalists wrote on Twitter.

At present, Rico is surrounded by his family and friends, who are all hoping that the blow sustained to his head is not somewhat lethal.

He served as a backup keeper to Gianluigi Donnarumma at the Parc des Princes and didn't play a single minute for PSG this season since joining PSG in 2020.

He has only played 14 matches in total for PSG and has won three Ligue 1 titles thus far.
