Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, an Islamic cleric from Kaduna, has stated that security forces invited him because of his remarks on the actions of bandits in the nation.
Allnews.ng had reported that Mohammed Idris, the Minister of Information and Orientation, disclosed on Monday that Gumi had been invited due to some comments he made.
The minister said that Gumi is subject to the law and that if security services thought his remarks were careless, they would question him.
This comes after Gumi, in a recent radio interview, reiterated his support for bandit amnesty, claiming that many turned to banditry due to perceived marginalisation and neglect from the government.
The cleric has frequently been pictured with different bandit organisations, and several Nigerians have called on security services to detain him due to his suspected connections to terrorist organisations.
Gumi said he had a fruitful conversation with security officials, who invited him due to his purported ties to bandits, in a post on his Facebook page on Tuesday.
He noted that the main topic of discussion during his meeting with the security officers was how to stop banditry in the nation's northwest.
Gumi welcomed the reporters and well-wishers who phoned to inquire about him and stated that there was no need for concern.
He wrote: “Last night I got many frantic calls from well-wishers and journalists about a news item that I was interviewed by security. There is absolutely no cause for alarm.
"Yes, we had a productive interaction on how to curb banditry as we are all trying — each in his own sphere — to tackle the monster bedevilling the nation. There was no animosity but courtesy and full of respect.
“We all need as a nation to unite and work in synergy to achieve an everlasting peace.”
