Romania's Sorana Cirstea is through to the last four at the Miami Open after she stunned No. 2 seed and reigning Australian Open champion Aryna Sabalenka in Wednesday's quarterfinals.

Cirstea beat Sabalenka in straight sets, winning 6-4 6-4 at the Hard Rock Stadium to record her first victory over a player ranked in the Top 2 of the WTA rankings.

This makes it the first time in 10 years she will play in the semifinals of a WTA 1000 event since finishing runner-up to Serena Williams in Toronto in 2013.

"I think I am a bit speechless,"  said Cirstea, who is ranked 74th in the world.

"I came out hoping that it would be a really tough match.

"Aryna hits so hard, so I knew I had to hold my ground.

"I am very, very happy with my performance today and it's a bit unexpected to be honest."

Her remarkable strides in the tournament has nothing to do with mother luck but her strong will and dedication to conquer.

The Romanian has still not dropped a set in five victories in Miami, recording wins over No.5 seed Caroline Garcia this week (after beating her in Indian Wells, too) and former Top 20 players Karolina Muchova and Marketa Vondrousova.

She will next play the winner of the match between Russian No.18 seed Ekaterina Alexandrova and Czech No.15 seed Petra Kvitova for a place in the final.
