Academic activities at the Federal University of Lafia came to a halt on Monday as non-teaching staff members of the institution joined the one-week national strike called by the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU).

Leaders of various non-academic staff groups gathered at the main gates of the university's permanent sites in Lafia, preventing their colleagues from accessing the campuses by barricading all entrances and exits.

The university workers carried placards with messages such as "Pay Us Our Four Months Withheld Salaries" and "Refusing to Pay Us Our Salaries is an Act of Victimization," among others.

Speaking to journalists, Comrade Daniel Dajen, Chairman of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) at the Federal University of Lafia, stated that they had decided to fully comply with the directive to embark on a one-week nationwide strike due to the non-payment of their four months' withheld salaries.

Comrade Dajen urged teaching staff members of the university to stand firm in the struggle and refrain from reporting to their duty posts until further instructions are given.
