93 primary school teachers in Kaduna State have received tablet computers courtesy of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) as an encouragement to enhance outstanding performance.

The beneficiaries include 49 teachers who scored 90 per cent and above in the competency test conducted in December 2021; 23 jolly phonics teachers who excelled in their work and 21 technical teachers.

Speaking during the distribution, Tijjani Abdullahi, the Executive Chairman of the Board stated that the development was to improve the use of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in teaching and learning.

“The effort is to reward teachers who excelled in the competency test conducted in 2021 to motivate them to do better in improving the learning outcomes of pupils.

“The tablet computers will also help develop the capacity of teachers to become digitally oriented and support the government’s ICT agenda.

“Classrooms are important; instructional materials are important but without a good teacher, all the investment will remain wasted.

“Kaduna SUBEB will continue to motivate teachers and support them with the needed ICT tools to make their job easier and impactful, to improve learning outcomes in basic schools,” Abdullahi said.

Hajiya Halima Lawal, the Commission for Education, said the government was working on giving the teachers the attention needed to enhance their delivery capacity.

The Commissioner lauded the teachers for their diligence, advising them to be examples to their colleagues and qualify for more rewards.

Speaking to journalists, some beneficiaries commended Kaduna SUBEB and the state government for the encouraging gesture.

“I am over the moon, very happy, very excited and grateful to the Kaduna state government for the gesture.

“I am a jolly phonics teacher and I really need the tablet computer to be able to teach my pupils properly. Besides this, I am also the Examination Officer in my school.

“This will help to document children’s scores after examination," Lulu Ma’aji.

Another beneficiary, Aliyu Mohammed said, “The world has gone digital, so I need this to do research on how to develop myself."
