Nigerians are set to experience a nationwide blackout in the coming days as electricity workers have revealed their intention to join the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in its planned strike over the fuel subsidy removal.

Citizens have been plunged into untold hardship following the announcement of the subsidy removal by President Bola Tinubu and fuel prices have soared across states of the federation.

Speaking in a memo dated June 2, and signed by its General Secretary, Dominic Igwebike, the National Union of Electricity Employees disclosed that the industrial action will begin on May 7.

According to the information, the electricity supply will be withdrawn on the aforementioned date.

“Sequel to the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Emergency National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held on June 2, 2023, at the Labour House Abuja over the sudden removal of fuel subsidy which has brought untold hardship to Nigerians as well as increased inflation in the economy, the NLC has directed that the nationwide withdrawal of Services action will commence on Wednesday, June 7, 2023.
