Witnesses said a fight between forces loyal to Sudan's opposing generals shook the western region of Darfur on Friday, the fourth day of a fragile cease-fire negotiated by the United States and Saudi Arabia.

The one-week truce, the latest in a string of accords that have all been routinely broken, was violated only minutes after it went into effect on Monday night.

Further violations of the cease-fire, which is intended to allow much-needed humanitarian supplies to reach war-torn areas of the nation, have occurred subsequently, with both warring parties blaming one other.

Six weeks into a fight between the regular army, commanded by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), locals in El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, reported "battles with all types of weapons."

According to the Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project, the conflict has killed over 1,800 people since it began on April 15.

According to the UN, over one million Sudanese have been displaced, with another 300,000 fleeing to neighbouring nations.
