Iga Swiatek's quest to defend her French Open title continues following her victory over American teenager Coco Gauff on Wednesday.
The world number one beat Gauff 6-4 6-2 in a rematch of the 2022 final at Roland Garros.
Unlike last year where Gauff suffered a 6-1 6-3 defeat, Wednesday's contest was much closer, even though Swiatek's quality was too much for the American to handle.
"For sure, it wasn't easy — the first set, especially, was really tight and Coco was really using the conditions here," Swiatek said.
"I'm pretty happy I was able to work on it and win this match because quarterfinals are sometimes the toughest matches.
"Even though Coco is young, she is experienced, so I'm pretty happy to be in the semifinal."
Swiatek will next face Brazil's Beatriz Haddad Maia who made history on Wednesday at Roland Garros after upsetting Ons Jabeur 3-6 7-6 (7-5) 6-1 in her quarterfinal match.
The pair last met on the hard courts of Toronto last summer with Haddad Maia stunning Swiatek in three sets.
But regardless of the advantage of the Brazilian on head-to-head, Swiatek remains the heavy favourite to move into the final in Paris.
The Pole's achievements on the women's tour over the past 15 months, winning some of the sport's biggest prizes, puts her heads and shoulders above her opponent.
