Dry-season farmers in Taraba State have lamented over escalating insecurity threatening dry-season farming in various parts of the state.
They also urged state administration and security services to act quickly.
The farmers added that homicides and kidnappings in various sections of the state are worrying.
The most affected council areas were identified as Lau, Ardo-Kola, Bali, Karim-Lamido, and Yorro.
According to Daily Post, Yahaya Mafindi, a farmer, and his colleague, Abdullahi Bello, both worried that banditry might interrupt essential farming efforts in Taraba.
Saidu Dauda, a farmer in Lau Council Area's Donada village, shared a troubling account of the situation, revealing that two villagers were killed and eight others were abducted in Kunini village just last week.
During the launch of the distribution of farm inputs for the 2023/2024 dry season farming in Jalingo, Hajiya Laraba Aminu Abdul, Chairperson of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) in Taraba State, expressed the same concern.
Abdul underlined that if insecurity is not addressed, many people will be discouraged from participating in dry-season farming.
In addition, Senator David Jimkuta of Taraba South recently warned of a possible famine in the state and the country as a whole due to the incidence of farmer killings.
Meanwhile, other Taraba locals have urged the government to solve the security issues plaguing the entire state.
"To be honest, all I want is for the government to protect our lives and property from armed bandits and kidnappers in 2024," Adamu Saleh, a retired police Sergeant, Allnews.ng gathered.
Ndafru Godwin, on his part, criticised the high cost of living in the state and elsewhere in the country and urged for a substantial reduction in the pricing of products and services.
