Taraba: FG begins distribution of relief items to victims of banditry

The Federal Government has begun the distribution of relief materials to 1,994 victims of banditry attacks in Lau and Ussa Local Government Areas of Taraba State.

The support which was conducted by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) aimed to reduce the suffering of the victims. 

The Director General of the agency, Zubaida Umar who was represented by Giwa Kurutsi from the NEMA Yola Operations Office sympathized with the state government and affected people.

During the distribution exercise on Monday in collaboration with the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), the NEMA DG explained that 758 beneficiaries were from Ussa and 1236 from Lau LGAs. 

While assuring that the relief materials reached the intended beneficiaries, the DG said "NEMA remains dedicated to supporting affected communities nationwide."

As contained in a statement by the agency, Chairmen of Lau LGA, Jatau Nigeria Silamma and that of USSA LGA, Peter Shewun Stephen commended the Federal Government for the swift response to support the victims. 

On his part, Savior Noku, the State Commissioner of Special Duties, Humanitarian Services, and Regional Development applauded NEMA and the FG for the gesture, stressing its significance to rwduce the victims' hardship.

The statement partly reads: "The distributed items, including food, non-food essentials, and building materials, aim to support the affected communities in their recovery process."
