There are Nigerian celebrities who also have a career in the law profession and have gained a reputation for themselves by the law profession. 

These celebrities are outstanding when it comes to their law profession and on many occasions they have been given accolades for being the best at their jobs. 

They have thrived in the spotlight while also successfully pursuing legal careers.

Their career in the legal field and while also being celebrities has gone a long way to pave the way for them to attain the height of success they are enjoying today. 

Let's take a look at ten of these Nigerian celebrities who are also in the Nigerian legal system.

1. Femi Adebayo Salami

Femi Adebayo Salami was born in Lagos, Nigeria, on December 31, 1978. 

He is a Nigerian film director, actor, lawyer, producer, and special adviser on arts, culture, and tourism to the governor of Kwara State.

He studied law at the University of Ilorin and graduated with a bachelor's degree. 

He later pursued a master's in law at the University of Ibadan

Femi practised law after completing his education, concentrating on estate and property law, until his passion for acting overcame him.

Producers of Yoruba-themed films are very interested in Femi. 

In Ibadan, he also runs an art college. He began his acting career before entering university. 

 

2. Ebuka Obi-Uchendu

On July 14, 1982, Chukwuebuka Obi-Uchendu was born in Benin City, Edo State. 

In 1997, he graduated from Christ The King College in Abuja with his secondary education. 

He continued his education at the University of Abuja through 2004. He studied at the Nigerian Law School in Abuja in 2005.

He went back to school after a five-year break and earned his law degree from the Washington College of Law at the American University in Washington, D.C., in December 2010. 

He graduated from the Law and Government program with a Master of Laws, with concentrations in Intellectual Property and Communications Law.

He rose to fame in 2006 after competing on the reality TV show, Big Brother Nigeria. He has continued to receive media attention ever since. 

 

3. Folarin Falana (Falz)

Falz was born on October 27, 1990, in Mushin, Lagos State, Nigeria as Folarin Falana.

He is an actor, songwriter, and rapper. Femi Falana, a well-known lawyer and social commentator, is his father.

Falz earned an LLB honours degree in law from the University of Reading in England. 

He briefly worked in his father's law firm after finishing his studies before pursuing his passion for entertainment.

Falz has expanded his involvement in the entertainment industry by acting in addition to his music career.

 

4. Funke Akindele

Jenifa, also known as Funke Akindele, was born in Ikorodu, Lagos State, Nigeria, on August 24, 1977. 

She is an actress, director, and filmmaker from Nigeria. 

She earned a degree in law from the University of Lagos after completing her studies in mass communication at the former Ogun State Polytechnic, now known as Moshood Abiola Polytechnic.

From 1998 to 2002, Funke Akindele starred in the sitcom I Need to Know, which helped her become well-known. 

In 2009, she won the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role. 

She rose to fame as a result of her portrayal of Jenifa in the similarly named film.


5. Folake Akindele Coker

1974 saw the birth of Folake-Coker in Lagos, Nigeria.

She completed her undergraduate studies in Switzerland and the UK before earning a postgraduate degree in petroleum law. 

She returned to Nigeria after that to concentrate on her fashion interests.

The daughter of Nigerian billionaire Chief Akindele, fashion designer Folake Akindele-Coker, has degrees in both law and petroleum law.

Folake Coker decided to pursue her love of fashion after discovering it. 

She left her legal career behind in 1998 to launch her opulent Tiffany Amber line.

 

6. Tara Fela Durotoye

Tara Fela-Durotoye was born on March 6, 1977, in Lagos, Nigeria, at St. Nicholas Hospital. 

She began her education at Command Children School in Victoria Island and later as a boarder at Nigeria Navy Secondary School in Ojo. 

She served as Sanitary and Welfare Prefect in Form 5. 

She founded the House of Tara International after graduating from Lagos State University with a law degree.

She was summoned to the bar and briefly practised.

Tara Fela-Durotoye is a Nigerian lawyer and beauty entrepreneur. 

She is regarded as a trailblazer in the Nigerian bridal makeup industry. 

In 1999, she launched the first bridal directory, established international makeup studios, and established Nigeria's first makeup school.

 

7. Kanayo O Kanayo

On March 1, 1962, Anayo Modestus Onyekwere, also known as Kanayo, was born. 

He was born in Aba, Abia State, and is from Nru Umueze Oboama Ezinihitte in the Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State. 

Kanayo O. Kanayo obtained degrees in philosophy, law, and mass communication from the University of Lagos. 

He continued his education by getting a master's in political science.

Veteran Nigerian actor Kanayo won the African Movie Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his work in the film, Family Battle'. 

He also serves as an ambassador to the UN. He attained his goal of becoming a lawyer at the age of 58.

He shocked his fans by announcing that he had passed the bar exam on September 15, 2020. 

The actor, 59, had always wanted to go back to school and get a law degree.

2018 saw him graduate from the University of Abuja with a law degree. 

At the Abuja Law School in Bwari, Abuja, he later finished his legal education, which was completed in 2020.

 

8. Richard Mofe Damijo (RMD)

RMD is the stage name of Nigerian actor, author, producer, lawyer, and former journalist Richard Eyimofe Evans Mofe-Damijo. 

On July 6, 1961, he was born in the Aladja neighbourhood of Delta State's Udu Kingdom. 

At the University of Benin, he continued his education by majoring in theatre arts. 

He later went back to the University of Lagos in 1997 to finish his law degree, which he received in 2004.

Mofe-Damijo represented Delta State as the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism in 2009. 

His acting abilities were recognised when he took home the 2005 Best Actor in a Leading Role prize from the Africa Movie Academy. 

At the 12th Africa Movie Academy Awards in 2016, he received a Lifetime Achievement Award.

Afterwards, he received a call to join the Nigerian Bar. 


9. Kenneth Okonkwo

On November 6, 1968, Nigerian actor, lawyer, and politician Kenneth Okonkwo was born. 

He gained notoriety for playing Andy Okeke in the film, 'Living in Bondage'.

Kenneth Okonkwo continued his education after earning his Business Administration degree from the University of Nigeria Nsukka. 

He graduated from the University of Lagos, Akoka, with an MSc in international law and diplomacy.

He later enrolled in law school in Abuja and earned his certification as a lawyer.

Kenneth Okonkwo was honoured with the African Movie Academy Award in 2013 for his outstanding work in Nollywood. 

In addition, he received a special recognition award from the City People Entertainment Awards in 2015 for his significant contribution to the expansion of the entertainment sector in Nigeria.

 

10. Omawumi Megbele

Omawumi Megbele, also known as Omawumi, is an Itsekiri-born actress and singer-songwriter from Nigeria. Her birthday is April 13, 1982.

She relocated to Port Harcourt, in the state of Rivers, after earning her law degree at Ambrose Alli University. 

She worked at the legal practice run by her family, "O.S. Megbele & Associates," while also attending Alliance Francaise.

Omawumi got her start in the entertainment industry by competing in West African Idols, where she finished as the first runner-up. 

Since then, she has abandoned her wigs and gowns in favour of concentrating on her music career.
