A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ndukwe Ikoh, said that anyone with a "conscience" will accept the fact that things aren't going as expected under the current administration led by President Muhammad Buhari.

He disclosed this in an interview with Sun newspapers, adding that the president is "difficult to assess even at this point".

He said, "Buhari is difficult to assess even at this point. He who has conscience and could speak the truth will tell you that many things are not working. Not the way some of us in APC and die-hard followers of the president would have wanted it to be.
"However, we shall continue to pray for our nation for the best."

Speaking on the security infrastructure in the country, Ikoh said that the country as "a whole needs foundational restructuring", adding that "everyone knows about this".

He posited that to restructure the Nigeria Police force, one would need to "overhaul the structure of governance" in the country.

"Nigeria as a whole needs foundational restructuring and everyone knows about this and has said it time and time again, including myself," Ikoh said.

He added, "It is an impossible task to restructure or attempt to carry out any meaningful structural changes in the Nigerian police force without first and foremost overhauling and changing our entire structure of governance."

From SARS to SWAT

When asked what he thought about the decision of the Inspector-General of Police's (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, move to constitute the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit to replace the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Ikoh said that it didn't matter.

He said that it wouldn't matter if the name "or color" change is done, "what works in any system is good operational methodology."

Ikoh suggested training, motivation, and institutional ethics to work hand-in-hand with "good authority".

"We need to overhaul our institutions to meet the present secular needs. That is restructuring," he said.
