Justice Nasiru Saminu of the Kano State High Court granted bail to Murja Kunya, a controversial TikToker, with a bail sum of N500,000.

The conditions include providing two trustworthy sureties, one being a relative and the other a person owning landed property in Kano municipal.

Murja sought bail after the Kano Shari’ah Court ordered a psychiatric evaluation by a mental health professional.

Justice Saminu, in his ruling on Monday, emphasized the need for Murja’s release, pointing out that the court would be observing the Easter break while she had been in custody since February 20.

The court registry also ordered verification of the sureties’ property. The judge also barred Murja from using her social media accounts until the case was determined.

“Any violation of the restriction would compel the Kano Commissioner of Police to arrest and bring back the Tik Toker to the court.”

“The defendant’s counsel, the Attorney General, representatives from the Hisbah Board, and the Commissioner of Police must be in attendance to address amendments to the Kano State Hisbah Board Amended Law for proper adjudication.” The judge ordered.

Meanwhile, the case has been adjourned till May 16, 2024, for further proceedings.

Following Murja's arrest by the Hisbah Board, concerns were raised about her conduct and Twitter posts, with allegations of immorality prompting the subsequent developments.
