Tons of cannabis destroyed in Edo forest —NDLEA

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has carried out the destruction of over three tons of cannabis (Indian Hemp) in a forest located in Edo State.

According to a statement by NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, the substances were found on a 1.577683-hectare farmland.

Babafemi reported that operatives raided the Oloma-Okpe forest in Akoko Edo Local Government Area (LGA) and eradicated 3,944.2075 kilograms of cannabis on the farmland.

Also, the NDLEA operatives in Edo State apprehended a suspect, Kole Samuel, aged 50, on Thursday, March 14. Babafemi stated that the suspect was arrested with 75 kilograms of psychoactive substances at the market area in Otuo, Owan East Local Government Area (LGA).

In the same vein, at least 24kg of cannabis was seized from the driver of a transport company, Ikechukwu Obialo, at Sagamu Interchange, Ogun State, by NDLEA operatives on March 13.

Babafemi said two suspects, Ali Amadu, 27, and Adamu Hassan, 33, were caught with 125.3kg of cannabis, 3,400 pills of tramadol, and 30 bottles of codeine syrup in Kano State.

“They were arrested on Monday,  March 11, at Gadar Tamburawa area, and Friday, March 15, at Tsamiya Babba, Hotoro, respectively.

“One hundred and eighteen kilogrammes of cannabis were recovered from a warehouse in the Masaka area of Nasarawa State on Saturday, March 16,” he said.

Meanwhile, all the various commands of the agency across the country continued the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign in the past week.

Babafemi quoted the NDLEA chairman, retired Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa, as applauding the officers and men in all the commands for intensifying their WADA advocacy lectures.
