Traditional rulers are crucial to Nigeria's security architecture.

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya mentioned this on Tuesday when he visited the District Head of Bargun Ka’oje, Mustapha Usman, in Bagudu Local Government Area of Kebbi.

“We thank the traditional rulers for the support they have been giving to us in our spirited efforts to ensure peace and security of this country.

“Traditional rulers are very important in the scheme of things; in the security architecture of this country,” he said.

Yahaya explained that the fact that monarchs reach deeply into the roots of the people make them crucial in security and safety.

“They play important roles in ensuring peaceful coexistence between people and they can harness information that is relevant and important to the security agencies.

“The criminal elements are not from heaven, they are living within the society in which we live in.

“They can only be dealt with if the general public assist the security agencies by providing them with necessary information on any suspicious character lurking around their neighbourhood,” he said.

COAS commended the district head for his untiring support to the military, adding that he was in Ka’oje to inaugurate projects provided to communities in the area by the Director Procurement in the COAS office, Major General Nasiru Usman-Mukhtar.

He said that the projects were meant to enhance civil-military relation.
