Arsenal winger Marquinhos was the star man for Brazil to defeat Nigeria 2-0 to top Group D in what was deemed a group of Death.

The clash began with an early scare for Brazil as Jude Sunday of Nigeria unleashed a spectacular volley that crashed against the crossbar and then ricocheted off the post, narrowly avoiding a goal.

The Brazilian goalkeeper, Mycael, showcased his reflexes by expertly saving the rebound and preventing Nigeria from taking the lead.

This wake-up call spurred the Seleção into action, and they quickly took control of the game. It was Marquinhos who orchestrated Brazil's opening goal, delivering a pinpoint corner that Jean expertly headed into the back of the net.

The Brazilian side showcased their trademark lightning-fast counter-attack to devastating effect, with Marquinhos himself doubling their lead with a clinical finish just 13 seconds after winning the ball back on the edge of their own box.

Despite a spirited performance from Nigeria in the second half, Brazil's two-goal advantage proved insurmountable, and the match concluded with a 2-0 scoreline in favour of the Seleção.

With their victory, Brazil cemented their position as winners of Group D, while Nigeria settled for third place based on goal difference. The Flying Eagles had already secured a spot in the last 16, but it was Brazil who reigned supreme in the group.

Looking ahead, Brazil's attention now turns to the round of 16, where they will face an as-yet-undetermined opponent. The highly anticipated match will take place on Wednesday in La Plata, as Brazil aims to continue their impressive form and make a deep run in the tournament.
