Four people, including a witch doctor, have been arrested in Busia District in eastern Uganda over suspected human sacrifice.

Following the killing of Richard Ocheng, 38, a native of Paya in Tororo District who had a bakery in Busia, the quartet were apprehended in Namaubi 'B' Village, Dabani Sub-county.

“We have arrested a witch doctor identified as Suleiman Wandera and his three accomplices over acts related to human sacrifice,” Moses Mugwe, the Bukedi Region South Police Publicist said.

According to Mugwe, the witch doctor was discovered with the deceased's body parts, including toes, which were allegedly locked up in a grain shop in Namaubi.

The culprits' police believe, locked up Ocheng's body in the store while they worked out how to dispose of it.

According to Ibrahim Muluku, the chairperson of Namaubi 'B' Village LC1, the witch doctor was hunted by people after a local dog kept barking.

"Residents were alerted by a barking dog and when two young men came out of the house, they found the witch doctor around an incomplete septic tank; he tried running away but with the help of the dog we arrested him,” Muluku said.

Muluku went on to say that after the witch doctor was apprehended, he told residents that he had a body hidden in a grain store belonging to the multipurpose project of Busia produce dealers.

According to one of the investigating officers who declined to be identified, a police search at the witch doctor's premises yielded bones, human hair, suspected human blood, and other fetishes that were taken for a forensic examination.

The source said a postmortem examination found that the deceased lacked blood and had part of his toes removed.
