Lagos residents plying Oshodi axis were thrown into confusion in the early hours of Thursday as soldiers invaded the area in search of some hoodlums suspected to be members of the NURTW.
All News gathered that the soldiers stormed the area in search of some members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) who had harassed a military officer on Wednesday evening.
According to an eyewitness who lives around the Cappa area of Oshodi, the soldier who was harassed was not in uniform but the army stormed the area on Thursday morning to request the identity of the harassers.
The eyewitness said that the presence of the soldiers has made many area boys and members of the NURTW within the area take to their heels to avoid arrest.
Although the witness confirmed that the operatives of the Nigeria army at present are not harassing pedestrians and commuters but expressed fear that the soldiers may soon start harassing people, adding that many commuters, residents, and traders are already on the lookout for safety as the presence of the soldiers cannot be trusted to bring peace.
However, some online reports said the soldiers have destroyed some vehicles while some persons were assaulted by the aggrieved soldiers.
The online reports claim the assaulted soldier was mobbed to death. It added that some residents and commuters heading to work were also trapped in the violence, while many school children fled back home.
Daily Trust reported that the incident has increased the traffic woe in the cosmopolitan city as their movement in the area has been restricted.
Oshodi links other major parts of Lagos and a major bus terminal is located in the area.
As of the time of writing this report, there has not been any official comment or reaction from the military or the Nigerian police.
Also, the Lagos State Government is yet to make any comment in connection to the growing tension in Oshodi.
