To reduce unemployment and improve the nation’s economy, the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), Bauchi State branch, has encouraged governments at all levels and philanthropists to invest in the transportation business.
Abdullahi Mohammed, the RTEAN Chairman in the state, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Bauchi.
Mohammed, who condemned the high rate of unemployment in the country, emphasised the need for governments at all levels to partner with transport unions and associations to boost transportation business across the country.
“Governments at all levels and kind-hearted individuals can purchase vehicles for transportation business through public-private partnership (PPP) arrangement.
“This will improve the economy and reduce unemployment rate in the country,” he said.
Mohammed, who is also the association’s Vice-Chairman, North-East zone, called on the government to establishment a Bank of Transport in the country to enhance creation of more revenue and employment, thus boosting the economy, stressing the need for the federal and state governments to invest in road infrastructure and other projects that would ease the transportation system in the country.
Mohammed appealed to the government to fix the bad roads across the country to further help the transportation business.
The chairman commended the state government for its investment in road infrastructure and public transportation.
“The state government has constructed a number of roads which has led to the expansion of businesses and ease of transportation.
“Government has also empowered the association with 20 buses to improve transportation system in the state.
“The association appreciates the governor for the delivery of these projects and buses,” he said.
The RTEAN chairman called on the state government to supply motor parks with security scanners as part of the re-introduction of security measures in the parks.
