The World Health Organization (WHO) has restated its commitment to preventing outbreaks of epidemic diseases in Yobe State.
This was made known by the Yobe State field office of the WHO, Dr Nuhu Ningi, during the training of some High-Risk Communities on epidemic prevention in collaboration with the state government to prevent outbreaks of disease during the weekend.
He said the training, which is among the steps to prevent the outbreak of diseases like cholera, measles, and COVID-19 among others through the use of vaccines would equip the participants with the required skills to enable on preventive measures like participating in immunization against reported cases of disease outbreaks.
This, the WHO hopes would help reduce the spread of the diseases.
On his part, the Executive Secretary, Yobe state Primary Health Care Management Board, Dr Babagana Machina, represented by the Deputy Director of Family and Community Health Services, Satomi Hikama, said the Health Care Management Board had received a report of the Cholera outbreak in nine local government areas of the state.
He noted that there has been a significant reduction in the cases following periodic routine immunisation in the state.
Dr Machina appreciated the WHO’s intervention, adding that more could be achieved through training and sensitisation.
