Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has approved the enrollment of 1,403 vigilantes into the state's contributory healthcare informal sector programme.

The governor's gesture was considering the invaluable contributions of the vigilantes in restoring peace to the state which has suffered over a decade-old Boko Haram insurgency.

Dr Babagana Tijjani, the Executive Secretary of the Yobe State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (YSCHMA) made this known in a statement on Wednesday.

According to the statement, the governor who has equally paid for the enrollment noted that the gesture aimed to enhance easy access to quality healthcare services.

He explained that the beneficiaries will now enjoy quality healthcare services "without financial barriers and to replace the usual out-of-pocket expenditures."

"Healthcare is a fundamental human right, and it is imperative that we leave no one behind in our pursuit of accessible and affordable healthcare for all residents of the state.

"By this commitment, Yobe State Government has further reaffirmed its total commitment towards the realization of Universal Health Coverage in the state."
