Yobe Governor Mai Mala Buni has approved the sum of N187 million for the feeding of poor and vulnerable persons across the state throughout the month of Ramadan.

The governor's approval was conveyed in a statement on Monday by Yusuf Ali, the governor's Senior Special Assistant on Communications and Strategy.

Ali also urged the public to disregard the report stating that the governor had approved N100 million daily for thirty days of the Ramadan period.

He said: "Please disregard misinformation that the governor has approved N100 million every day for 30 days. The total amount approved is N187 million for the whole month."

He explained that at least 200 people are expected to benefit from the governor's gesture for twenty-nine or thirty days in each of the 84 feeding centres across the 17 Local Government Areas of the state.

He added that the State Commissioner for Religious Affairs and Ethical Re-orientation, Yusuf Umar has charged contractors and vendors that will handle the feeding programme, to consider their job as a service to humanity by serving the food accordingly.

He noted that the state government will monitor their activities for the value of money spent on the programme.

The commissioner further appealed to wealthy individuals in the state to compliment the governor's effort by supporting their neighbours who are in a state of need.

He partly stated: “I would like to assure you that the Ministry would closely monitor the performance of the vendors and contractors with a view to ensuring that they adhere to the contractual agreement signed between them and the state government.

“His Excellency Hon Mai Mala Buni is passionate about the plight of the people especially the less privileged and as you can see he vested this on our hands hence we cannot fold our arms seeing any contractor or vendor compromising on the agreement reached.

“This is a holy month, a month that every Muslim wants to benefit from the bounties of our creator, the Almighty hence the contractors should consider the assignment of feeding the people across the state as a privilege to serve humanity for reward in the hereafter.”
