Yobe: Buni declares Wednesday work free day in honour of late ex-governor, Ibrahim

Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni has declared Wednesday, February 7, 2024 as work free day in honour of the late former governor of the state, Bukar Abba Ibrahim.

The one-day holiday marks the third day prayer of the late elder statesman who died on Sunday in Saudi Arabia after a protracted illness.

The governor's spokesperson, Mamman Mohammed conveyed the approval for the one-day holiday on Tuesday in a statement.

According to Mohammed, Governor Buni urged residents of the state to use the period in praying for the deceased leader. 

The statement partly reads: "Gov. Buni gave the declaration today, saying the day should be used to offer prayers for the former Governor who died in Saudi Arabia on Sunday.

"He urged the people of the state to use the period to pray for the repose of the soul of the late governor.

"The three days prayers for the late former governor who died and was buried in the Holy Land will be offered at the Government House Mosque, Damaturu.

"Yobe state government officially took over the funeral and condolences rites to honour the late governor.

"Governor Buni, in the company of government officials and the family of the late governor, has been receiving condolences from sympathisers from within and outside the state at Government House Damaturu."
