The Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni has ordered the release of diesel to boreholes in Damaturu, the state capital to tackle water scarcity.

The governor's directive which was with immediate effect from Sunday was conveyed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Baba Malam Wali in a statement.

According to the SSG, the directive was to ensure relief for residents who have been hit by water scarcity in the capital city and its environs for the past few days.

He said the water scarcity was occasioned by the lack of electricity supply to power the boreholes due to the recent destruction of the 330KV electricity line by vandals.

He assured that pumping and supply of the water would commence immediately in some parts of the city and its environs.

The statement partly reads: "The Governor said there was enough diesel for distribution to enable the powering of all boreholes in the affected areas, promising that the problem would be resolved immediately.

"Residents of Damaturu and its environs had been battling with acute water scarcity as a result of the destruction of 330kv electricity line by some unknown vandals.

"This has made it difficult to power borehole generators that would supply potable water to residents."
