Yobe: Buni wages war against quackery in health sector

The Governor of Yobe, Mai Mala Buni is waging a war against quackery in the state's health sector, shutting down seven illegal training institutions and clinics in the state. 

The Executive Secretary of the Yobe Healthcare and Health-related Facilities Inspection and Monitoring Agency (YOHFIMA), (Dr) Yusuf Ngamdu made this known on Friday in Damaturu, the state capital.

The Executive Secretary said the facilities were caught operating without a license and offering unlawful clinical services and certificates.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Ngamdu further appealed to residents to be aware of such illegal facilities as a move to tackle quackery in the state's health sector. 

While calling on private and public healthcare facilities against employing graduates of such illegal facilities, Ngamdu warned that defaulters would be sanctioned.

He equally urged public and private healthcare facilities to ensure that they register with the agency and stay clear of irregularities.

The facilities shut down by the government include, "Medical Career Guidance, Potiskum; North-East Biotech Services Limited, Public Health Consultancy Services, Potiskum, and Auxiliary International Health Sciences Academy, Nguru.

"Others are Iqmi International Modern School Study Centre Potiskum; Aminci Nursing Home and Maternity Damaturu, and an Unnamed radio-diagnostic centre opposite Primary Healthcare Centre Dogon-Zare, Potiskum."
