2023 Elections: Burna Boy Doubles Down On Not Voting

Burna Boy

Burna Boy has reiterated his stance on not being vocal about Nigerian politics and clarified his position on voting in the recently-concluded presidential elections.

In a post on his Instagram story, the Grammy award-winning singer emphasized that he has never profited from any Nigerian government, nor has he taken any houses, land, or money from any governor.

He also revealed that he has never held any government appointment nor had any intentions to do so.

Burna Boy stated that he contributes to his country from his heart, pockets, time, and emotions, and that his actions are not for social media validation.

He also stressed that he owed nobody anything and that his decision not to vote in the election was a personal one.

“I’ve never made money from any Nigerian government and I never took any house, land, or money from any governor,” he wrote.

“I’ve never been appointed into any office, and I never intended to be. All the good I do for my country comes from my heart, pockets, time, and emotions.

“It’s not social media validation, and it’s definitely not because I owe anybody. I say I nor vote. Make everybody getat.”

Burna Boy’s comments follow criticism he received for saying that he does not understand why Nigerians expect him to be vocal about politics.

The singer clarified that he does not have a preferred candidate and does not want to mislead Nigerians into selecting the wrong person and then taking the blame.

He expressed his hope for a free and fair election in which the best candidate wins.
