The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Tanko Muhammad, on Friday, swears in Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem as President, Court of Appeal.
AllNews recalls that President Muhammadu Buhari had sent the nomination of Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem, Acting President, Court of Appeal, to the Senate for confirmation as President, Court of Appeal, in line with the recommendation of the National Judicial Council.
Dongbam-Mensem, who had been recommended by the National Judicial Council (NJC) to succeed Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa who retired in March, is presently occupying the position in an interim capacity.
On May 29, 2020, Buhari approved an extension of her appointment as the Acting President of the Court of Appeal with effect from June 3, 2020, for a further period of three months pursuant to Section 238(4) and (5) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended).
Dongban-Mensem was confirmed after the presentation of a report by Senator Opeyemi Bamidele regarding the Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters.
