COVID-19: Death Toll In Italy Rises To 20,465

The death toll from the novel coronavirus has climbed past 20,000 on Monday, while the number of people in intensive care has dropped for the tenth successive day.

Italy ranks second, only behind the United States, with its newly reported 566 new deaths, bringing the total number of deaths to 20,465.

The number of patients put in intensive care has dropped from 4,068 on April 3 to 3,260 on Monday, which shows an improvement in Italy's fight against the virus that has ravaged the country.

Just last week, Italy extended its lockdown to May 3.

Although the extension of the lockdown had the full backing of the country's doctors, businesses bemoaned the lockdown, citing the loss of money.

The Italian Government plans a relaxation of the lockdown on Tuesday, with plans to reopen book stotes and laundries, with the practice of social distancing being observed.
