COVID-19: UAE Launches Online Wedding Platform

As coronavirus cases continue to rise in different countries across the globe, many nations and territories are implementing practical approaches to curb its spread, and in this vein, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has initiated an online platform that will allow couples wishing to get married during this period do so without the need for a physical gathering to observe the occasion.

Coronavirus has spread to 193 countries, with over 1.8 million cases recorded, and a death toll of over 100,000.

The UAE justice ministry announced that both residents and citizens wishing to wed can set a date for their wedding online through a video link with an officiant once their paperwork is submitted and greenlit, this is according to a news agency in UAE WAM.

With the online marriage, a cleric will affirm the couple's identity and those who will stand as witnesses before the couple is issued a marriage certificate that is sent to a court for approval, which will be confirmed to the couple through text message.

According to WAM, the online wedding service is “to maintain the health of the public and that of people working in courts and to limit the presence of employees.”

The UAE has a record of over 3,700 COVID-19 cases, with a death toll of 20.
