COVID-19: US Death Toll Surges Past 32,000

 

The United States has a confirmed number of 32,917 deaths from coronavirus , as of Thursday, according to a tally made available by John Hopkins University.

The death toll saw an increase by 4,491 deaths in just 24 hours, making it the highest death toll recorded by any country within the 24-hour time frame ever since the outbreak of the disease.

Authorities say that the number of deaths recorded includes “probable” coronavirus-related deaths previously not included. 

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, on Thursday, recorded a total of 31,071 deaths with probable deaths from the virus numbering 4,141.

The current death toll in the United States makes it the country with the highest death toll globally, with Italy closely behind it, recording 22,170 deaths.

Spain has a record of 19,130 deaths while France, the country with the third-highest death toll records 17,920 deaths.

Over 600,000 cases have been reported in the US, while the country's epicentre, New York, has recorded over 12,000 deaths.

President Donald Trump had announced the intention of the US Government on the reopening of the US economy, stating that each state governor will "take a phased deliberate approach to reopening their individual states.”
