Disney's 'Greek Freaks' To Star Nigerian Leads

Greek Freaks, an upcoming Disney movie is set to star Nigerian actors Uche Agada, along with Yetide Badaki and Oludayo Okeniyi.

An exclusive report from Variety reveals that the film is finally taking shape, and Hollywood newcomer Uche Agada will make his onscreen debut as NBA star Giannis Antetokounmpo in the biopic about the Greek sportsman's family.

Greek Freaks will see American Gods star Yetide Badaki play Antetokounmpo's mother, and Hunger Games actor Oludayo Okeniyi portrays his father.

The movie will be directed by Akin Omotosho and is being developed by Disney for their streaming platform, Disney +. It was first announced in 2019, and production is set to commence in the latter part of 2021.

Inspired by the true story of Antetokounmpo's family, Greek Freaks is executive produced by Antetokounmpo, with a script from Arash AmelBernie Goldman serves as producer of the movie.

Lead star Agada auditioned after he saw a screengrab on Instagram of an announcement about the open casting call from Antetokounmpo's Twitter account.

Giannis Sina Ugo Antetokounmpo was born on December 6, 1994, and is a Nigerian-born Greek professional basketball player for the Milwaukee Bucks.

He was born to Nigerian immigrants in Greece and began playing basketball for the youth teams of Filathlitikos in Athens. He started playing for the club's senior team in 2011 before entering the 2013 NBA Draft.

In 2016 to 2017, Antetokounmpo led the Bucks in all five major statistical categories, becoming the first player in NBA history to finish a regular season in the top 20 in all five statistical of total points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks.

He is a two-time NBA Most Valuable Player and was named the NBA Defensive Player of the Year in 2020.
