Former presidential spokesperson Reno Omokri has praised Northern Nigerian Muslims for their sense of unity and loyalty in a tweet posted on his official Twitter account.
In the tweet, Omokri lauded the culture of sticking together in times of crisis and emphasized the importance of unity in building power.
The tweet comes in the wake of the recent conviction of former Nigerian Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, and his wife, for their alleged involvement in organ trafficking in the United Kingdom.
Ekweremadu was sentenced to nine years and eight months in prison, while his wife was sentenced to four years and six months.
While Reno Omokri did not make any direct reference to Ekweremadu in his tweet, he alluded to the fact that in Northern Nigeria, Muslims tend to stick together even in times of disagreement, unlike other regions in the country.
He also highlighted the possibility that if a Northern Nigerian Muslim had found himself in a similar situation as Ekweremadu, they would most likely have sought conflict resolution through Islam rather than other means.
“One thing I admire about Northern Nigerian Muslims is that they stick to their own in good and bad times.
“No matter what the world says about their own, they will cuddle them publicly. Any rebuke is done privately. That lifestyle builds unity. And unity brings power!
“If a Northern Nigerian Muslim had been brought to London by a desperate Northern Nigerian Muslim seeking to save his daughter’s life, and the intended donor had changed his mind, he would most likely have headed over to the nearest mosque rather than the nearest police station.
“Even in disagreement, my experience in Northern Nigeria taught me that they would rather use Islam for conflict resolution than other means,” Omokri tweeted.
