EXCLUSIVE: Nigeria Squash King Onaopemipo Reveals Toughest O

Nigeria No.1 male squash player, Adegoke Onaopemipo, has named Ilorin, Kwara state-based Gabriel Olufunmilayo as his toughest opponent.

AllNews reports that the two young players who are ranked on the Professional Squash Association (PSA) World Tour, have been locked in thrilling battles in the last few years.

At the Obasanjo National Squash Open in 2019, 'Onas'  emerged winner 3-2 after a tough clash versus Olufunmilayo in Ogun state.

The talented 'Onas' also triumphed at the maiden Lekan Adewoye Open Squash Tournament in September 2019, not forgetting the First Frigate Squash tourney.

At the Frigate tournament at the Ikoyi Club in Lagos, it was also a sturdy duel for 'Onas' against his nemesis Olufunmilayo, but he came out victorious 3-2.

Olufunmilayo dominated the First Apapa Club Squash Open in September 2019 and won the tournament.

His (Olufunmilayo) impressive outings last year shot him from No.4 in the country to No.2 at the moment.

"My toughest opponent has to be Gabriel Olunfunmilayo", Onaopemipo, 20, told AllNews exclusively recently.

"That guy is a beast - just like Mohamed El Shorbagy.

"He moves around and never gets tired.

"I sat down and I had a review of my matches with him, and figure out what to do to win the point and to win the game."

Squash in Nigeria is rapidly growing and for the first time in 20 years, the nation participated in the World Championship in the USA in December.

Onaopemipo and Olunfunmilayo were initially billed to feature at that prestigious tournament, but they were denied participation due to visa hitch.
