Former Somalia President Ali Muhammad Dies At 82

A former President of Somalia, Ali Mahdi Muhammad is dead

He died of coronavirus disease complications, reports said. The Ministry of Information spokesperson, Isamel Mukhtaar Omar confirmed that Muhammad died in Nairobi, Kenya. The exact date of death is unspecified.

A three-day mourning period has been declared. The government has appointed a National Funeral Committee.

Muhammad, 82, was the fourth President of Somalia. He was in power from January 26, 1991, until January 1997.

The native of Mahaday District of the Middle Shabelle became a member of parliament in 1968.

The deceased was a businessman before he took over the country’s leadership after the military government was toppled.

Meanwhile, as at the time of filing this report, the cause of death of Ali Mahdi Muhammad is unknown, but local media specified that Mahdi Muhammad had been hospitalized for three days in a medical center in the Kenyan capital.
