Nigerian singer, Akinmayokun Awodumila a.k.a. May D has spoken up on the feud he had with P Square-owned Square records.

In an interview with rapper Ikechukwu, better known as Killz, May D revealed he had hit songs while on the record label but things went south when he requested that he wanted a structured contract.

May D said he was doing it for the love and the belief and then the contract issue happened.

"When I was in Square Records everything was good. The songs were top-notch it was good, they were hits.

"The only thing that happened was when we decided to turn it into a business, we decided to structure," he said.

According to May D, he didn't get any shows during his time on the record label but was only playing shows with them that he was not paid for.

He stated that he was not bothered at the time because he was only enjoying himself and wasn't smart enough to know he was supposed to get money.

"I was just busy with shows. I had no shows while I was with them. They never got me one show. I never got paid. I was only playing shows with them that they never paid me for.

"But all those things were not issues I didn't take it as anything because I was just enjoying myself. And I wasn't smart enough to know that I was meant to.

"I can't blame them, it's business. When I got smart and knew that I am supposed to be collecting bar (money).

"I got a show in London, then they gave me a contract which they said they were never going to give me."

He, however, revealed that he will be dropping his EP very soon under his imprint 'Confam DMW'

In May 2011, it was announced that May D signed to the P Square-owned Square Records. He then featured on a remix of 'Chop My Money' by P Square and alongside Akon. A short while after, Square Records also shot videos like 'Soundtrack' and 'Ile Ijo' for the singer.

In August 2012, May D announced his split from Square Records and announced his own label, Confam Entertainment.

At the time, Jude 'Engees' Okoye said, "We at Northside and Square records wish him all the best in his career and life."

But in January 2013, Jude Okoye told HipOn TV, "We sign in artistes as our way of giving back to the society, and by the time they become known, we let them be.

"However, when May D came in, he wanted more than that, he wanted to be Psquare, a name that we have struggled to be built for years…”

In 2020, during the wake of Cynthia Morgan and Square Records feud, May D took to his Twitter handle and wrote, "For your information, I was staying in their boys' quarters with their driver and their cook just one room all of us shared a toilet and I had big songs and also the other side of their twin duplex was empty! Now! I slept on brand new television carton used my shirt as cover cloth."
