Minister Loses Driver To #EndSars Protest

The Minister of State for Labour, Festus Kayamo has announced that his driver Yohanna Shankuk died during the #ENDSARS protest in Abuja, on Wednesday, October 15.

Keyamo made the announcement in a tweet on his official Twitter handle in the early hours of Thursday, October 15.

According to him, Shankuk died at Berger roundabout, Abuja.

The minister wrote “I regret to announce that my driver, Mr. Yohanna Shankuk, died yesterday in Abuja as a result of the protests.

“A vehicle that saw advancing protesters at Berger roundabout, made a U-turn, took the one-way back and ran over him as he was making his way on foot to my private office.”

Birth Of Renewed #EndSars Movement

Even though there have been calls for an end to SARS in the past years, with the Federal Government promising reforms in the police force, brutality meted out on citizens still persists.

An incident that triggered the recent outcry was a report of a SARS operative gunning down a man in Delta State and since October 5, youths in several parts of the country have been protesting (online and offline) against police brutality.

They called for the scrapping of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) which had been accused of extrajudicial killings.

Despite the scrapping of the controversial unit by the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu on Sunday, October 11, the protests have continued.
