Naira, Fuel Scarcity: President Buhari To Preside Over Emerg

In a bid to address the ongoing crises stemming from the naira and fuel scarcity, President Muhammadu Buhari will preside over an emergency council of state meeting on Friday.

Protests have erupted in different parts of the country and the convergence will also look into the issue of insecurity ahead of the forthcoming general elections.

Per a Daily Trust report, the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, is expected to give an update on the currency redesign policy at the meeting which will hold at the Council Chambers, Presidential Villa, Abuja, at 10 am. 

It was also revealed that the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahmood Yakubu,  as well as the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba, will brief the council on the preparation for the February 25 presidential and National Assembly elections as well as March 11 governorship and state houses of assembly polls. 

Among other things, the meeting is aimed at taking decisions to quell the tension before the election and avert a potential crisis as citizens continue to express their frustrations over the cash scarcity issue.

Members of the council are President Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, former presidents, former Heads of State, former Chief Justices of Nigeria, President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, governors of the 36 states of the federation and the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN).
